ROH Double Feature II

ROH The Hunt Begins (4/17/09)

Jimmy Jacobs vs. Tyler Black ***3/4

Jay Briscoe vs. Roderick Strong vs. Kenny Omega vs. Austin Aries ***1/4

Jimmy Rave & Claudio Castagnoli vs. Colt Cabana & Brent Albright **3/4

Davey Richards, Eddie Edwards & Sylvain Grenier vs. Kevin Steen, El Generico & Bryan Danielson ***1/4
I'd like to know who's idea it was for Grenier to not be involved in this match much. I mean, did everyone else say "Ya know, we don't think you're very good, so uhh we got this, don't worry about it." or did Grenier say "You guys are a lot better than I am, to be honest, I don't really need to be a big part of this match, do I?" Either way, I'm sure it was a good idea, because it was a pretty good match.

ROH Tag Title Classic (4/18/09)

Claudio Castagnoli vs. Colt Cabana **3/4

Austin Aries, Kenny King & Rhett Titus vs. Kevin Steen, Player Dos & Kenny Omega ***1/4

Markham Street Fight
Jimmy Jacobs vs. Delirious ***1/4

Jay Briscoe vs. Roderick Strong ***3/4

ROH World Tag Team Championship
Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards (c) vs. Bryan Danielson & Tyler Black *****
I might get some flack for giving this 5 stars, but I don't care. It also entertained me more than KENTA/Davey did and I gave that one 5 stars too. I never lost interest in this match at all. The pace was never too slow, never too fast. It was tag team wrestling at it's finest. Danielson is just brilliant when it comes to selling a leg. They were all noticeably worn out near the end of the match, and rightfully so. If you've got 45 minutes to kill sometime, you better watch this match. This is my Match of the Year. It'll be hard to top.

Pretty awesome DVD right here, definitely worth getting. Not a bad match throughout, plus you get to see a bonafide classic tag team contest. One shame about this DVD is that if someone new to ROH were to watch it, they wouldn't know who the World champion was at the time.

WWE The Bash (6/28/09)

Scramble Match for the ECW Championship
Tommy Dreamer (c) vs. Christian vs. Finlay vs. Mark Henry vs. Jack Swagger **3/4
Pretty average match. Though I'm not sure why Dreamer went for another cover when he was already the one that had the last pin.

Title vs. Mask for the Intercontinental Championship
Chris Jericho (c) vs. Rey Mysterio ****1/4
Very entertaining match. They set this one apart from all their other contests. Very, very good match. Definitely a must-see.

The Great Khali vs. Dolph Ziggler *

Unified Tag Team Championship
Carlito & Primo (c) vs. Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes vs. Edge & Chris Jericho *1/2

WWE Women's Championship
Melina (c) vs. Michelle McCool **1/4

World Heavyweight Championship
CM Punk (c) vs. Jeff Hardy ***
My god, what a finish this match had. It wasn't a superb wrestling match, but it was good and had an even better finish. I'm loving Punk's heel turn. I'm excited to finally see him pull out his heel persona in the WWE.

The Miz vs. John Cena 3/4

3 Stages of Hell for the WWE Championship
Randy Orton (c) vs. Triple H ***3/4
I was predicting to myself that Triple H would sacrifice the first fall, just so he could get to the Falls Count Anywhere stage. This way he could use the steel chair to annihilate Orton. By the way, why did the ref make him stop? He can do whatever he wants in Falls Count Anywhere. I hate when the referees look retarded like that. Anyway, the stretcher match was pretty well done, and Orton and Hunter put on a quality match together. This one is worth viewing.

Aside from Rey/Jericho and Orton/HHH, this one isn't up there in match quality, but it made up for it, with the stories they added to the show. Jericho and Edge being added to the tag title match, out of desperation by Teddy. Then Orton and DiBiase having an argument about what's important. It was a pretty good pay-per-view, IMO and WWE keeps on dishing out monthly goodness.

ROH Night of Appreciation (4/27/02)

Da Hit Squad vs. Christopher Street Connection vs. Prince Nana & Simply Luscious DUD
Some crazy spots, but it was more of a brawl. Could have done without this.

Jay Briscoe vs. Tony Mamaluke ***

Scoot Andrews vs. James Maritato vs. Xavier **3/4

AJ Styles vs. Low Ki ****1/4

Donovan Morgan vs. Christopher Daniels ***3/4

Paul London vs. Michael Shane *

Michael Shane vs. Spanky ***1/2

Spanky vs. Bryan Danielson ***1/2

Jose & Joel Maximo vs. Eddie Guerrero & The Amazing Red ***1/2

Pretty damn good show. Though, I don't know why London/Shane went less than 3 minutes, then Shane/Spanky and Spanky/Dragon went 10+ each. London got some easy money that night, I guess.

ROH Supercard of Honor IV (4/3/09)

Rhett Titus vs. Erick Stevens **1/4

Chris Hero, Eddie Edwards & Incognito vs. Kevin Steen, Jay Briscoe & Magno ***1/4

Katsuhiko Nakajima vs. Roderick Strong ***3/4
Would have gotten 4 stars if it'd been longer. Seemed like it only had one long stretch of fast-paced action.

Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brent Albright vs. Blue Demon Jr. vs. El Generico **

Bryan Danielson vs. Alex Koslov ***1/4
I liked Koslov's match with Strong more than this one, but this one wasn't bad at all. Koslov is awesome, in my book.

D-Lo Brown vs. Colt Cabana **1/2

GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship
KENTA (c) vs. Davey Richards ****1/2
This was so awesome, not quite ***** though. They damn near kicked each others' heads off. The editing of the finish looked retarded though. I was like "WTF?"

Jimmy Jacobs & Austin Aries vs. Tyler Black & Necro Butcher ***

ROH World Championship
Nigel McGuinness (c) vs. Jerry Lynn ****1/4

Great show. Not a lot of tremendous stuff, except for 2 or 3 matches, but nothing was really bad. You might notice (or not) that I left Dempsey/Kamala off my ratings. Well that's because the match never happened. Dempsey gave Hagadorn a cannonball in the corner and that was it. This show is definitely worth seeing.

TNA Slammiversary (6/21/09)

King of the Mountain Match for the TNA X-Division Championship
Suicide (c) vs. Jay Lethal vs. Alex Shelley vs. Consequences Creed vs. Chris Sabin ****1/4

Christopher Daniels vs. Shane Douglas **1/4

TNA Knockouts Championsip
Angelina Love (c) vs. Tara **1/2

Monster's Ball
Raven & Daffney vs. Abyss & Taylor Wilde ***3/4

Matt Morgan vs. Sting **1/2

TNA World Tag Team Championship
Brother Ray & Brother Devon (c) vs. James Storm & Robert Roode ***3/4

King of the Mountain Match for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship
Mick Foley (c) vs. Jeff Jarrett vs. AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle ****1/4

Really good show, IMO. Matt Morgan surprised the hell out of me. His match with Sting wasn't too bad. The two KOTM matches were awesome. Worth seeing.

ROH Fifth Year Festival: Liverpool (3/3/07)

Davey Richards vs. Homicide ***1/2

Sara Del Rey vs. Allison Danger **1/2

Jimmy Rave & Jimmy Jacobs vs. BJ Whitmer & Colt Cabana ***

2 out of 3 Falls
Delirious vs. Matt Sydal ***1/4

FIP World Heavyweight Championship
Roderick Strong (c) vs. PAC ****

ROH World Tag Team Championship
Jay & Mark Briscoe (c) vs. Naruki Doi & Shingo ****1/2

Nigel McGuinness vs. Samoa Joe ****3/4
This should have been Joe's farewell match at the Finale. I know it was only fitting, with their rivalry and all, that Homicide be Joe's last opponent. Thing is, this match was a much bigger moment, in my opinion.

Superb show. Don't know if this or Finale is better. Don't really wanna determine that though, as both are great shows. Definitely track this show down any way you can.

ROH Better Than Our Best (4/1/06)

Jack Evans vs. Matt Sydal vs. Jake Crist vs. Dave Crist vs. Ace Steel vs. Jimmy Jacobs ***

Delirious vs. Ricky Reyes **

Jimmy Rave, Alex Shelley & Masato Yoshino vs. Ryo Saito, Genki Horiguchi & Dragon Kid ****1/4
Funniest moment of the night (and most random) is in The Embassy's interview later in the show when Shelley said "we're gonna get laid by hookers!"

Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Jimmy Yang ****

ROH World Tag Team Championship
Austin Aries & Roderick Strong (c) vs. Naruki Doi & CIMA ****1/2

ROH World Championship
Bryan Danielson (c) vs. Lance Storm ****

Chicago Street Fight
Homicide vs. Colt Cabana ****3/4
Awesome, awesome feud ender. Cabana and Homicide burying the hatchet afterward was a great moment.

One of the best professional wrestling shows I've ever seen, to be completely honest. I would recommend it to anyone.

ROH Nowhere to Run (5/14/05)

James Gibson vs. BJ Whitmer ***

Jimmy Jacobs vs. Chad Collyer **3/4

Doug Williams vs. Homicide ***3/4

Alex Shelley & Delirious vs. Jack Evans & Roderick Strong ***3/4

Nigel McGuinness vs. Colt Cabana ***1/4

ROH World Championship
Austin Aries (c) vs. Bryan Danielson ****

Steel Cage Match
CM Punk vs. Jimmy Rave ****1/4

Great show. I would recommend it to anyone. Especially people that don't know how good ROH was back then.

Sunday, June 14, 2009

ROH Take No Prisoners 2009 (4/4/09)

Ace Steel vs. Colt Cabana **
Funny match, at the beginning, at least.

Jay Briscoe, Magno, Kevin Steen & El Generico vs. Chris Hero, Davey Richards, Eddie Edwards & Incognito ***
Fun match. Very fast paced.

Fight Without Honor
Jimmy Jacobs vs. Necro Butcher ***3/4
This is Necro's best match in a while. I was pleasantly surprised by it. Might be overrating it, but it was very enjoyable.

Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brent Albright vs. Blue Demon Jr. *3/4

Alex Koslov vs. Roderick Strong ***1/4
Koslov should be a permanent member of the roster. He gets a great reaction from the crowd, the fans cared that he was there. Oh, and Roddy is Roddy.

ROH World Championship
Jerry Lynn (c) vs. D-Lo Brown vs. Erick Stevens vs. Bryan Danielson ***
Very short for a 4-way title match, but it was fun. D-Lo looked good.

Austin Aries & Katsuhiko Nakajima vs. Tyler Black & KENTA ****3/4
Oh my god! What a match this was. I don't think I overrated it. Also, Aries shined like crazy in this one. Loved when he was cringing at every kick KENTA and Nakajima delivered to one another. Brilliant match, IMO.

Awesome show. I recommend everyone sees it. Especially those Koslov doubters.

Thursday, June 11, 2009

PWG One Hundred (4/12/09)

PWG World Tag Team Championship
Nick & Matt Jackson (c) vs. Dustin & Brandon Cutler ***1/2

Scott Lost vs. Roderick Strong ***1/2

Bryan Danielson vs. Kenny Omega ***

Joey Ryan vs. Paul London **3/4
Man, this wasn't very easy to watch. London showed some rust. I want him to have a singles match against Danielson or Generico, just so he can show he's still got it, before the fans start turning on him.

B-Boy, Candice LeRae & Scorpio Sky vs. Austin Aires, Human Tornado & Chuck Taylor ***1/2

Tyler Black vs. Davey Richards ***3/4

El Generico vs. Sonjay Dutt ***1/4
"He's going for the Stoner, the Stone Cold Stoner."

PWG World Championship
Chris Hero (c) vs. Colt Cabana ***
Man, PWG's world title matches are becoming an afterthought lately. More so, Hero's becoming an afterthought. This match got to the point where I was like "Oh, Hero's in this match too". I'm glad they're giving him a program with Joey now, because they need to give him matches with legitimate heels, where the fans will cheer for Hero. That, or turn Hero heel. Not a bad match, not great though.

Good show. Nothing bad, really. I recommend watching it.

Tuesday, June 9, 2009

WWE Judgment Day (5/17/09)

CM Punk vs. Umaga ***

ECW Championship
Christian (c) vs. Jack Swagger **1/2

Shelton Benjamin vs. John Morrison ***1/2

WWE Intercontinental Championship
Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Chris Jericho ***3/4
Each time these two guys go at it, I can't help but have flashbacks to their battles back in WCW. Such a treat to watch them work together.

WWE Championship
Randy Orton (c) vs. Batista **3/4

John Cena vs. Big Show **1/2

World Heavyweight Championship
Edge (c) vs. Jeff Hardy ***3/4

Yet again, another solid PPV in 2009 for WWE. I don't think they've had a bad one yet this year. I'd like to hear someone explain how any of them are bad. I'd like to point out that I'm nowhere near the WWE's biggest fan lately, but I have to admit that so far in 2009, they are delivering.

WWE No Way Out (2/15/09)

Elimination Chamber for the WWE Championship
Edge (c) vs. Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Vladimir Kozlov vs. The Undertaker vs. Big Show ****1/4

No Holds Barred
Randy Orton vs. Shane McMahon ***1/2

ECW Championship
Jack Swagger (c) vs. Finlay **

Shawn Michaels vs. JBL **

Elimination Chamber for the World Heavyweight Championship
John Cena (c) vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho vs. Edge vs. Kane vs. Mike Knox ****1/2
I like that this match was mostly Jericho, Rey and Edge. Cena, Kane and Knox were all eliminated within five minutes of entering the match. We got about 30 minutes of action from Rey, Edge and Jericho. It was pretty awesome.

Another good 2009 PPV for WWE. I'd recommend watching it, just for the Elimination Chambers and Shane/Orton as an added bonus.

PWG Ninety-Nine (4/11/09)

Scorpio Sky, Phoenix Star & Zokre vs. Scott Lost & Brandon & Dustin Cutler ****

Bryan Danielson vs. Chuck Taylor ***1/4

Joey Ryan vs. B-Boy ***

Kenny Omega vs. Davey Richards ****

Roderick Strong vs. Sonjay Dutt ***

Tyler Black vs. El Generico ***1/4

PWG World Championship
Chris Hero (c) vs. Austin Aries ***3/4

PWG World Tag Team Championship
Nick & Matt Jackson (c) vs. Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley ****1/4

I really enjoyed this show. It was awesome. GUEST COMMENTARY ISSUE STILL NOT FIXED, though. I wonder if they even try to fix the fact that you can't hear a word the guest commentator is saying.

WWE Royal Rumble (1/25/09)

ECW Championship
Jack Swagger (c) vs. Matt Hardy ***

WWE Women's Championship
Beth Phoenix (c) vs. Melina **1/2

World Heavyweight Championship
John Cena (c) vs. JBL **1/2

No DQ for the WWE Championship
Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Edge ***3/4

Royal Rumble Match ****

Solid event. Beth/Melina and Cena/JBL weren't bad matches. Swagger/Hardy, Edge/Jeff and the Rumble itself were pretty darn good. This is an event worth watching.

Monday, June 8, 2009

WWE Extreme Rules (6/7/09)

WWE United States Championship
Kofi Kingston (c) vs. MVP vs. William Regal vs. Matt Hardy **3/4
This match didn't go nearly as long as it should have. It was good while it lasted, though.

No Holds Barred for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Chris Jericho ****

Samoan Strap Matchp
Umaga vs. CM Punk ***

Hardcore Match for the ECW Championship
Christian (c) vs. Jack Swagger vs. Tommy Dreamer **1/2
Same goes for this match. If it had gone longer, they could have done a lot more stuff and it would have been a lot better. It was good though.

Steel Cage Match for the WWE Championship
Randy Orton (c) vs. Batista *1/2
This match seemed extremely rushed, and having Orton lose the title in 6 minutes made him look bad, IMO. I don't like the idea of Batista carrying a show. I hope this is his last title run.

Submission Match
Big Show vs. John Cena **

Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
Edge (c) vs. Jeff Hardy ****

Another awesome Pay-Per-View by WWE. Keep it up, boys.

Sunday, June 7, 2009

WWE Wrestlemania 25 (4/5/09)

Money in the Bank Ladder Match
CM Punk vs. Kane vs. Mark Henry vs. MVP vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Christian vs. Finlay ****1/4
In my opinion, this is the best of all the MITB matches. Just a great match. Spot after spot after spot, it didn't go overboard though, and ring psychology actually came into play.

25 Diva "Miss Wrestlemania" Battle Royal DUD
This was pretty retarded, just like any other women's battle royal that ever happened. They didn't even introduce anyone. What's the point of having past divas there if you're not even gonna let the fans know that they're there? Santina was something funny though, but I'm still confused as to why Beth didn't attack Santino after the match and say "He can't win! He's not a woman!". I was thinking throughout the match, that they should have Beth win it and have it every year and start a thing where Beth wins the battle royal every year. She would, therefore, be legitimately nicknamed Miss Wrestlemania.

Chris Jericho vs. Ricky Steamboat, Roddy Piper & Jimmy Snuka ***
I loved this match. Piper and Snuka actually did OK, and I didn't hate anything they did. Steamboat put on a great performance, he was awesome. Jericho was Jericho. I also thought the Rourke segment was very well done. They didn't just have Rourke join in a beatdown on Jericho. They had him go toe to toe with Jericho and got him with a left hook. It was pretty awesome, if you ask me.

Extreme Rules Match
Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy ***3/4
I loved this match, they had some awesome spots. The twist of fate with the chair on Jeff's head was pretty fuckin sweet.

WWE Intercontinental Championship
JBL (c) vs. Rey Mysterio DUD
Second worst part of the night. Rey winning the IC title is fine, but they should have had an actual match. Who's gonna believe that a 619 and a splash right off the bat is gonna take anyone out for the three count? Especially a guy that weighs like 175 doing it against a guy that is a whole hell of a lot bigger than him. The 619 is a joke, and he should get rid of it.

The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels ****3/4
Ok, I knew this match was going to be good, but not this good. This was amazing. There's really nothing else to say about it.

World Heavyweight Championship
Edge (c) vs. Big Show vs. John Cena ***1/2
This match was pretty good, nothing wrong with it. They tried some new things. I thought they made it way too obvious that Cena was going to win though. He's the focus of the build-up videos, he comes out last with some huge entrance. I mean, it's obvious.

WWE Championship
Triple H (c) vs. Randy Orton **3/4
Meh. Should have been better, given the backstory, but it was pretty much the same as any other match they've had. Sure they tried a few new things, but it just didn't have the personal feel. Vince, Shane and Stephanie should have gotten involved also.

I loved this show. Nothing more to say. It was a great Wrestlemania.

WWE Backlash (4/26/09)

ECW Championship
Jack Swagger (c) vs. Christian ****
MARKED LIKE A LITTLE KID IN A FUCKIN CANDY SHOP WHEN CHRISTIAN TALKED TO EDGE BACKSTAGE.

Ricky Steamboat vs. Chris Jericho ***1/2

Kane vs. CM Punk ***
This match needed to prove that it belonged on the show. It didn't fit in with the rest of the card. The rest of the card was stacked with great feuds and a few we could call "blood feuds" that have been going on for more than 2 months. Punk and Kane more than proved they belonged on the show. They put on a good match, and we saw some shades of Punk's indy days, with the hard strikes he gave Kane. Just plain good.

"I Quit" Match
Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy ***3/4

WWE Championship
Triple H (c), Shane McMahon & Batista vs. Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes ***3/4
Orton was a genius in this match. He finally showed some brutality. He threw Shane into the steel steps with such force. This was Orton at his finest, really. It takes a lot from Orton for me to give him this respect, though, so don't go saying I'm an Orton mark. Far from it, I have had high expectations for his future, and he has finally shown me that he is the man. The finish in this match was brilliant (cept for the stupid ring bell guy). I can't wait to see what happens next.

Last Man Standing Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
John Cena (c) vs. Edge ****3/4
I don't know what to say about this one. This one really speaks for itself. Just watch it. Definite Match of the Year candidate. The FU into the crowd had me saying "What The FUCK?"

This is the best PPV I've seen since... I don't know when. Instinct tells me since Wrestlemania 17, but maybe I'm forgetting something that's happened since then that would rival this PPV. Nevertheless, this PPV was stellar, and I mean STELLAR.

CHIKARA King of Trios 2009 - Night 1 (3/27/09)

Opening Round Match #1
Team EPIC WAR vs. The F1RST Family ***1/4

Opening Round Match #2
The Osirian Portal vs. Team PWG ****

Opening Round Match #3
The Roughnecks vs. Team Uppercut **3/4

Opening Round Match #4
Team CZW vs. Da Soul Touchaz ***

Opening Round Match #5
F.I.S.T. vs. Death Match Kings ***

Opening Round Match #6
Team DDT vs. The Future Is Now ***1/2
This one got quite sloppy at times, but it was still very good.

Opening Round Match #7
Incoherence vs. Masters of a Thousand Holds ***3/4
Another very good one. Don't understand why this wasn't the main event, to be honest.

Opening Round Match #8
The UnStable vs. The Cold Front **3/4
Very disappointing as a main event. Should have been a midcard matchup. It is very confusing that it was the main event.

I am now done with the whole King of Trios weekend. Night 2 was the best of the 3 nights. Then Night 3, then Night 1.
